What happens when a community becomes the artwork?
This interactive activation invited the Melbourne Quarter community to take part in Wear It Purple Day, a celebration supporting LGBTQIA+ young people and promoting inclusion.
Visitors were encouraged to wear purple and, on arrival to collect a purple flower in exchange for a charity donation. A photographer captured each participant holding their flower. Each guest received a digital copy of their photograph, while a second version was printed as a tile and layered into a growing installation. As more portraits were added throughout the day, a larger artwork gradually emerged, revealing a collective image made up of the community itself.
The final artwork/photographs remained within the building, allowing participants to see themselves as part of a shared expression of support, connection and belonging.
Jade led the concept, design and production of the activation.
