Rise Again — Transforming Books into Film
Stop-motion animation | 2021
Repurposed Fringe Festival guidebook pages, glue
When the world stopped, creativity rose in its place.
Rise Again is a stop-motion animation created by lead artist Jade Armstrong in collaboration with magician Jordy Doust. The work was commissioned for the Opening Ceremony of the 2021 Melbourne Fringe Festival. The printed festival guidebook was rendered obsolete when festival events were moved online due to COVID-19, together Jordy and Jade transformed these pages into a poetic meditation on reinvention.
Layer by layer, frame by frame, fragments of cancelled plans become a celebration of possibility. The flickering paper scenes reflect the creative resilience that emerged from the pandemic’s chaos — a reminder that even in stillness, we can find movement, magic, and hope.
From discarded pages, something new takes flight. What might you create from the unexpected?
